Rogation Walk
On Bank Holiday Monday 4th May, around 40 walkers and several dogs took part in a traditional Rogation Walk to ‘Beat the Bounds’ of the Benefice of Bramley, Sherfield on Loddon, Stratfield Saye and Hartley Wespall with Stratfield Turgis. Ranging in age from 10 to 78, the group included members of all four churches as well as people from the local community. The event started with breakfast at St Leonard's church in Sherfield on Loddon and followed rural footpaths and quiet roads to St Mary’s Hartley Wespall, where welcome cups of tea and coffee were served. After a break for lunch, where more walkers joined in, the 12-mile route continued to the third church in the benefice, St Mary’s Stratfield Saye. The final stretch took us along parts of the St James’ Way pilgrimage route and into Bramley, where a well-earned BBQ awaited the walkers at St James’ Church. It was a lovely way for members of all our parishes to get together and celebrate the beautiful countryside around our Benefice.
